Drink Recipe: The Hope Diamond
The Hope Diamond
Not gonna lie, this one takes some prep work, but it’s sooo worth it! Not too sweet and not too bitter, this is a great drink for guests as the presentation can be so much fun! It’s also not a drink they’re going to make for themselves (unless they love it as much as WE do), so the only place they’re going to get it is at your place! If you like company, that’s a good thing! If you don’t, then only make this drink for yourselves!
Shopping List:
Silicone Ice forms. These can be cubes or diamonds or whatever you want. Here are some options from Amazon:
4 Count Diamond Forms
15 Count Diamond FormsWild Hibiscus Blue-Tee 100% Pure Butterfly Pea Flower Tea - 1.1 oz
Grey Goose Vodka
Lemon Juice
St. Elder Pamplemousse Liqueur (This is our FIRST choice, but can be hard to find. Our second choice is Giffard Pink Grapefruit Pamplemousse)
Cocktail Shaker (we like THIS one because it’s double insulated and the cap doesn’t freeze to the cup or your hands)
Martini Glasses (Clear, so you can show off the color of the drink)
Preparation (at least the night before):
Make the Butterfly Pea Flower Tea (this will provide 2 Cups of sweet syrup and about 6 ice cubes depending on the ice cube form you chose)
Bring 7 cups of water to a boil
Brew 8 packets of tea in the water for 10 minutes
Remove 2 Cups of the tea (keep this for later)
Use the remaining tea to pour into your forms. If you have leftover, keep it in another container and in the refrigerator until you can use the ice cube form again
Freeze the ice cube forms
Pour the 2 Cups you removed earlier back into the pot and add 2 Cups of sugar (yes, I know this is a lot of sugar, but you only use 1 ounce per drink in the recipe. Make sure the tea is still hot in order for the sugar to melt)
Stir the mixture until all the sugar has melted
Pour the Tea Syrup into a container and place in the refrigerator
Clean up! That blue tea can stain!
Making the Drink (Makes 2 Drinks):
Wide martini glasses work best
Add your diamond (or shaped) ice cubes to the glass
Fill cocktail shaker 3/4 full of ice
Fill Shaker with: 4 Shots (6 ounces) of Grey Goose Vodka;
1 Ounce Blue Tea Syrup;
1 Ounce Lemon Juice;
2 Ounces Pamplemousse Liqueur
Shake for at least 15 seconds (longer if you’re a heathen and don’t store your vodka in the freezer like civilized folk)
Pour through the shaker into 2 glasses (or 1 big glass if you’re a lush like me)
Enjoy!
